In South India, as part of traditional functions, Zari Panche (also known as Lungi – traditional cotton cloth) is either purchased or gifted to Men. But now they are hardly worn by any and usually takes a back seat in the cupboard after the function. Recently, I was cleaning my brother’s cupboard and found a pile of these traditional lungi’s. They come in pure white cotton material with rich border of bright colors – red, green and gold. I wasn’t happy seeing them fading and lying waste. I thought of different ways to reuse them and zeroed upon to use it, to deck up the bed.
Yes, I used the traditional lungi as beds-spread and pillow covers and added few rustic elements to bring Indian village look. Below are the detail DIY steps:
Things you Need: Cane Baskets – 3peices ; Lungi (also called as ‘Zari Panche’) – 2peices
- Step 1: Use 1 piece of Lungi as a bed spread
- Step 2: Nail cane baskets on the wall
- Step 3: Use 2nd piece of Lungi as pillow covers. While stitching, ensure the ‘Zari’ border shows up in the front.
